Happy Holidays from XT

We were taking pictures for the new Christmas card when we I got a bit off track...It is just so easy to take great shots of XT! There is not enough room or time on this blog to try and catch all her beautiful expressions...but I managed to get a few.

... Shipper's Delight

Another day at the office. I was walking out of the office the other day to see this beautiful site. You know what they say, "Red sky night, shipper's delight, Red sky morning, shipper's warning"

Garage shoot

I knew I always wanted to do a shoot under this particular overpass in the city. So I finally got to go out and get some shots...and they did NOT turn out how I had expected. I had to play with them a bit, and work with lighting etc. Here is how some of them came out...

Diamond Chix

I am redeveloping a fast-pitch softball teams' web presence, so here are some of the shots from the shoot. We went out to a training session to catch them in action. These girls are no punk! Their new web site will be up shortly!

Also need to post a shout out to my cousin Mary-Grace who is a part of the squad!

Ballet shoot

Had to shoot for a dance studio on the north side of Indianapolis last weekend. It is so amazing the lines these girls can create with their bodies. The symmetrical lines they produce with what seems to be little effort was amazing to see. This shot, among many, clearly proves my point.

Okay, so I have finished our little wedding site. We are going to have family from all over the world so, any news we can get over the pond is helpful! Here it is:

Matisyahu & friends

Recently went to go check out Matisyahu and The Flobots at the Murat theatre in Indy. They put on a very good show...Afterwards was able to get a limited edition litho signed by Matisyahu himself, along with getting to get in a few laughs with boys from The Flobots. It was a fun evening and the poster was a bonus.

'Matchbox'

I was just playing around at my desk when I started to take some snap shots of a few model cars I have sitting around. As most of you know, I have accumulated quite the collection of model cars since my childhood. As it turns out, I am well underway of shooting a whole series of my model cars. These are the two images that sparked the idea...

I have to admit, I had some inspiration from a CLIPSE verse when I was thinking of a clever title for this series:

"...it's hard to stay low when your garage full of matchbox..."

I deemed it fitting to title the series 'Matchbox'. I will post a link when I get the series completed and in a working order...

Flower Power

Not my image but a great shot taken by my fiance. XT took a trip back out to the grave site where we got engaged and snapped a few shots of the flowers and the newly acquired ring. We are still building the wedding site and you can bet this image will be apart of it!

Great shot XT!

In the sticks

So I took a trip to southern Indiana last weekend to visit XT's parents and along the way I stopped and took advantage of the country side and its beautiful sunset. I thought it was interesting to see a BMW, and its status quo, out in the sticks along country roads and corn fields. I say this because, driving an M3 is a serious experience, it's FUN to say the least. BMW has the image of being this sophisticated, middle-upper class, automobile but deems itself as "The Ultimate Driving Machine". I 100% agree that it IS an ultimate experience to drive this daily driver at speeds not legal around corners and up and down on-ramps. BUT how often do you see BMW commercials where the driver is racing through back roads and down windy country openings? NOT OFTEN. And ask any M3 (or any BMW) enthusiasts where they love to take the car, where they can take corners and feel the suspension at work, where they can dig through the gears and feel the ultimate driving experience...

one can't avoid mentioning the fun they have out in the sticks!

Anyways, this is not a driving picture, which is what I really wanted, but a quick snap shot of where (at least me) BMW enthusiasts really have fun with the car!

Now Showing

First of many, I can promise you that.

Just got my new front treads and was on a drive when I noticed an old cinema with an empty parking lot...Sadly, I was without my camera but not without my phone. So I pulled in and snapped a shot with the camera on my phone. Nothing to write home about, but it is the first official shot (of many) of the new ride!

Rest assure this car will frequent my blog!

Calling out!

I am sure you have all seen the Barrack Obama campaign art. If you haven't, look around, it is everywhere! Anyways, last weekend a few of my friends and I were hanging around and I happen to notice a trend...

Vote for CHANGE.

Something HAS to change.

Engagement Invites

With my recent engagement, comes being creative with invites and save-the-dates! We are having the typical engagement BBQ so our invites turned out like this. Some green napkins, plastic silverware, and a belly band with details inside...Not real sure if sending 40 plastic knives and forks was the smartest, but we'll find out!

Power in Numbers

Power in Numbers is a piece I developed after a networking event we attended. It always amazes me the power and importance a business card has, so this piece was made to represent the hustle-'n-bustle of business professionals. Lots of business cards, lined up in rows, pushing their product, yada yada...but looking at it from our creative agency side, and US pushing our service, I began to visualize something.

All of these cards in this piece are ours (employees of Matchbook Creative), they all are ideas that we "sell" or "market" to potential clients. The impact and importance of one card is only as powerful as its design, in theory. It is like an advertising campaign. So I looked at it in a way similar to the critique stages of a design project. A designer does something and essentially sells that design to his colleagues, they critique it, changes are made, and so on... At the end, a pretty nice piece is developed with everyones collective input. This piece represents that idea.

Nearer the top, all the cards are simply lined up and uniform, but then there is one flipped over, an "idea"...then another "idea" finally after two or three people buy into it, they decide to try and put one of the green sides upside down...a few more rows go by and they feel they like it so, they do it again... Basically the power of numbers and ideas has spawned this creative thought to turn one of them upside down. By the bottom of the piece, there is a total of 3 upside down. I guess you could say it is a process piece showing the process of power in numbers.

Not to mention, the entire time I was doing this piece I ironically had Jurassic 5's Power in Numbers album playing in the background.

Written Transformation

Not my artwork per se, but we are involved in the development of a new website for a local personal fitness gym, Transformation Fitness & Wellness. They are getting their name tagged on the their wall, so we thought a progression photo shoot would be a great addition to the site. Although it's not 100% complete, here are some of the shots.

Looks good and should be a stand out piece to the facility. It's about 25ft long by about 6ft tall. Keep an eye out for their new website launch to see it in action!

Scotland

Better late than never. Here are a few shots from the trip:Down the famous Rose Street in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Proof in the Stamps

Okay, so I am back and had a great time! Belfast was all a bit of a blur, but my eyes were wide open when we went through the city to view all the murals (many images to come). It was good to see family and to show XT what the mother-land is all about! The stamps in the passport are mounting up...

I think the next trip will be to Egypt, why not?

I got a lot of good shots during the few weeks we were traveling so...I'll get them posted shortly!

Travel bound

I am off to Scotland & Northern Ireland tomorrow! So needless to say there will be no posts for about 3 weeks. I will work on getting some good photography done while I am traveling and have something worth posting when I return!

SOLE Collector

As some of you know, I have a thing for the collection of shoes, "Newbies" being at the top of that list. Well a few months ago SOLE Collector did a feature on New Balances' special release Super Team 33's and the cover design was just as cool as the shoes themselves! So I did some searching, found the cover, and got one to keep!

Sesame Street writer

Christopher Cerf is son of Random House Publishing founder, Bennett Cerf, as well as one of the writers of Sesame Street. Chris was in Indianapolis last night doing a lecture on his TV series "Between the Lions" This guy is a character! He has so much passion for teaching children, so much knowledge on child education, and has such a drive for the best way to get kids reading. It was truly refreshing!

Anyways, we were sent to the lecture to create a documentary of his visit, and I landed photography duty.

I know, I know, this blog is quickly becoming a photo blog...I've got some things I am working on (just need to get them finished).

In the Audience

I was recently involved in a photo shoot at a children's artist workshop when I got distracted by this adorable little girl. As I bounced around the theatre, she played on her dad's lap during the entire show. Too adorable to miss, I took a few shots of her throughout the performance. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get her name.

Glow in the Dark

I know this is my art blog, and I have some music posts...but this music post IS art! We attended the show in Chicago over the weekend and were left nothing short of amazed. Kanye did his thing! This production deserves a post.

I recommend catching this show if it is remotely
close to your city.

Spotted our schwag

I snapped a shot of our new marketing schwag in action. As you know, I am now with an ad agency called matchbook creative, and we recently developed our first piece of schwag. (schwag is free stuff given out by companies as marketing pieces). Fittingly we made matchbooks, considering it is our branding. So while at a bar, I spotted a guys cancer sticks with the infamous schwag attached.

The power of free schwag.

dot.com

Yes. It's official. www.kevingormal.com is now mine! Nothing too exciting posted other than my logo, but it will serve as the host to all my smaller sub-sites and forth comings. Who knows what that really means. I guess it just gives me a means to make a fool out of my friends publicly when I catch them on camera. Stay tuned though, the site is in progress and will be a looker once it's up and running! ( I am hoping)

The Ad World

Well, it has been a month and the blog has been last on a busy list. I have had a few things in the works but with this new gig I have, there is not enough time in the day. My main goal right now is to finish a few sites I have started. Some soccer sites, so those will be up soon. Stay tuned. I'll get some links up!

Missy Higgins

I have to say one of the best concerts I have been to in a long while. Not often do you go to a concert where the artist sounds as good as their record (or even better). Missy Higgins sounded better than her record! Live shows are always better to me, but Missy blew us away! We drove to see her in Chicago and I recommend catching her whenever you get the chance. Check her out if you have not heard of her. www.missyhiggins.com

Tooheys New

This isn't REALLY art related, but it's been a LONG time coming. Actually it has been about 3 years coming. When I was in Australia I discovered this beer called Tooheys New. I actually didn't discover it, it was the only thing they had at most pubs, so I became accustom to it by default. None-the-less, it grew to become my beer of choice. So once I made it back to the states, I tried every way possible to get some shipped over to me.

The 3 year struggle has ended. Right next door to my new place of employment is a little market called "Goose the Market." They carry rare meats, cheeses, and specialty wine and beers. (among lots of other great items) I asked if they could get Toohey's New and the very next day, a case of my long waited beer had arrived!

...It taste just like I remember...

Onward & Upward

Well, I took the leap. After 3 years at IBJ, I moved from the corporate world of design to the small up-&-coming design firm. Matchbook Creative, Inc. I am going to be doing a lot web design, branding, video production...among plenty of other stuff. I am looking forward to helping this new place grow into a respected design firm!
