Cities

99% done! I have made it through all the cities. I am toying with the idea to keep the raw wood frame, but most likely will give a slight staining to refine and finish the piece.

LOTS

Believe it or not, I have LOTs of projects going on all at once. If fact, I wrapped up three last night. One is my gift to my groomsman, so I can't post that one... I will post some shots soon. Some smaller projects and a rather large on in the works as well...

VNA mailer

Got a chance to do a pretty involved Visiting Nurse Association recruit mailer. I did a few design templates and this one they loved. It is square in size but the tabs on both sides pull out to reveal lots more info. (Pretty intricate how it's all put together.) It will be going into production once pricing and quantity gets settled on their end. I look forward to seeing this final piece put together.

ctrl z website

I have done some mock ups for the new 'control (z)' website. It will certainly be a unique looking I.T. site, but I think that is a good thing. The owner/CEO is a very well put together gentleman and I thought this type of site accents his presence very well. He approved the design and we will start production once we settle everything up. Stay tuned to pushcontrolz.com.

Away from the Desk

I needed to step away from the desk for a bit the other day so I went on a photo hunt. Surprisingly it landed me across the street from my car... (the numbers are from a track day a few days prior.)

Pathfinders in Elder Law

Got word today of a logo selection from a local law firm here in Indy. Severns & Stinson is an elder law firm with the tag line of 'Pathfinder in Elder Law'. We were a bit worried they wouldn't go this abstract or symbolic with their new branding, but we were surprisingly pleased they did. I like this one! Stay tuned as we re-brand their image with this new identity.

Clean Reflections Mobile Detailing

Just wrapped up helping a friend of mine launch his mobile detailing site. Turned out pretty nice. VERY simple, cut and dry, clean site. I have actually had my car detailed by him and he does one hell of a job. I would recommend checking his services out...

Billboard

A client of ours, Visiting Nurses Association out of Texas, is moving forward with some billboard advertising in there area. We have been pushing our print/web campaign that communicates "Become a part of their stories." It takes the outlook on recruitment and runs with the idea that as a nurse you become a part of their life, and a part of their stories.

My campaign contribution looked like this: Elderly people telling their stories, sharing their lives. You may need to get a little more detail on the campaign trail to understand it a bit better but, I thought they came out simple, clean and gave the target audience a bit of responsibility in understanding what the job entails.

GRN DOC

These logos are for online forms used by a company out in California. It is actually an eco-friendly dentist association we work with. Very cool stuff. All of the office supplies, the building, the papers, EVERYTHING they use is ALL eco-friendly. The logo is meant to be a web stamp/seal of approval for particular documents and statements.

These were my initial submissions, so we will wait to hear back from killa' cali.

Metal Works Logo

We are have been working with a company on redeveloping their logo after they recently purchased the company. It is an industrial metal fabrication company that designs and builds steel racks for the auto industry. We actually played a role in developing their new name as well. Of the 30 or so names we produced, "Metal Works Industrial Fabrication" is what they are leaning towards. As the lawyer started going through the hoops of trademarking, we started on some creative. Still nothing set in stone on the name, that pends TM info from corpo.

After some quick sketching and toying, these are what I considered my best options on a crunched time frame. Nothing special, but a start. I'll keep you posted on where things go and if mine make the cut...

Updates

Okay, so there is going to be a change happening in the world of kjg's art blog. My 8-to-5 as well as planning for the wedding is taking so much of my time right now and I am neglecting to focus on my personal art projects. Furthermore, I am going to post some of the work I am doing while at Matchbook (logos, brochures, website, video projects). At least this way it proves my design passion still lives on...

So stay tuned, I'll get some recent logo work we have been working on posted today at some point.

AAF Indianapolis Submission

So the AAF, Indianapolis (American Advertising Federation) is accepting designs from local creative/art directors for the Indianapolis Downtown street banners. There are of course guidelines to abide by which include incorporating the Indianapolis Downtown logo in some artistic format. Above is one of my submissions.

Let me tell you, for the amount of time I put into working that skyline into the Indy skyline, it doesn't carry the strength I thought it would. I'll post my other submissions as well when I get them wrapped up.

What do you think of this one?

I'll post a mock-up of the banner on the street here shorly.

Again, NOT my art, but for me Eminem's album has been long anticipated. It is out, it is legal and I am sampling it as we speak. I'll drop my unprofessional music review when I get a chance to really 'hear' it.

Congrats Photo Call

So my cousin Tyler just graduated from my alum high school Lawrence Central and needed some invites for his is famed Grad party. We (his mother) wanted to get some shots taken and include them in his invites. So we did. He headed over to the new pad where we got some pretty good shots. Thought I'd include a shot that included some OBEY art that we have on display.

Hope you, Aunt Denise, were happy with the way things came out...

He's now Purdue bond!

Spike Lee?

Remember way back when (well actually way back before the big election) I did an Obama poster for a design site? Well, come to find out, my design has been recognized by some pretty interesting people, Spike Lee to be exact. Anyways, Spike Lee and TASCHEN publishing are publishing a book for the 1 year anniversary of the big win. The book is set to showcase some essays by Spike himself, as well as some political art produced prior to the election. (This is where my poster comes into play) The book's focus to is show the power of street developed art and its continued worth using viral marketing. We all know the power that Shepard Fairey's image had on the campaign! All the posters created for this site where to be freely made posters not for profit or gain, but to simply spread the word more through street art. All posters were meant to be copied and printed and posted wherever. Simply creating a mass viral poster campaign of quality political art done by artist throughout the country.

Guess what, it worked, clearly.

Anyways, my poster is set to be highlighted in the book being published in November.

Its' pretty cool to be involved in such project.

No Art

Still no art just yet, but I am slowly wrapping things up in the new place. I will have some furniture I designed to share, as well as a pretty cool piece I am wrapping up.

I will also get some shots of my very own 'art studio' in our new place for my selected "sees it" poster series... Came out pretty cool. Stay tuned, I'll get some pictures this weekend.

Cities

So I have shifted my world a bit in last month or so. We have moved out to the 'blurbs' and hung up the towel on our great pad in the city. It is only temporary, so we can save some bucks to look back in the city at something we can afford.

Anyways, to the art:

I have had this piece in mind for some time. I think I got inspired to do this piece when I was going through all my travel pictures. I got to thinking, me and XT have covered a lot of places in our short lives thus far... we are very fortunate. I wanted to make a pieces that highlighted parts of the world that have impacted our lives in a positive way. Plus I wanted to do it BIG, so this piece is 7ft tall by about 2ft wide. In the moving process, I scoped out the living room as great place for this piece. Here is the digital sketch of it, It is mixed media with oak wood, tar, spray paint and some good 'ol lacker. I'll work on getting some shots of it once its fully completed and in its place in the new digs.

Thoughts, comments?

Deuce - 0

Again, not really MY art but I was certainly a part of the experience! A couple of us made it over to Columbus to route the US against famed rival Mexico in a World Cup Qualifier. It was quite the experience, as it always is when the US faces Mexico. Anyways, our boys defeated Mexico yet again with a 2-0 score.

But that wasn't the half of it... Columbus Crew Stadium is located near OSU campus, so we decided to go out for a 'few' on campus. Good times, cheap college beers, can't beat it. Well, before the night had ended I found myself posted up with USA soccer player in a venue not to be mentioned. Not just a US player, the one Clint "Deuce" Dempsey. Oddly enough, the player I hold to the highest respect for playing in the EPL for Fulham United! Clearly not the best pictures, but it was a night I won't soon forget. But all good things have to come to an end, besides, he was getting pumped to head back over the pond to play Man U on Tuesday.

No big deal right, just another day at the office.

NOTE: all pictures where taken with the iphone so...quality was left to the imagination.

Weather Frustration

The weather here in Indy has been freezing at best! Which in turn means, no photo shoots of the car! Hell, no photo shoots at all! It is blistering cold outside! So in my state of frustration, I was playing with some old pictures and came up with this one. The car is bone stock with no mods in this shot, which is slightly different than it resides now. A few minor mods have taken place over the course of the winter, many more are sitting in my garage waiting for the weather to allow me to get them installed. Soon enough though, soon enough...

PICK ONE

Okay, so I am doing a logo for an automotive club here in Indy. We have narrowed it down to these 5 or so... Drop me a line and cast your vote: 1,2,3,4, or 5? I'll let you know which one the client picks. I also think they will role this into a website so, that could be in the mix too?!

Matboarding

Well, it has been too long since I have had a chance to drop a line on here. The holidays, the family, the driving for 9 hours only to get stuck in an ice storm and have to head back home again... BUT, I stayed VERY busy with the framing thing I have going. I found myself framing nearly every night (well, should have been framing every night!) It helped pay for the holiday season, and some of them were even gifts themselves!

I am getting closer to having the "framed: by kjg" website complete too! So that can be of use to those still waiting for me to get their projects done! Stay tuned!
